Description

Looking for a mouthwatering smoked beef recipe? Look no further. I’ll show you how to make the most delicious smoked beef that will have your taste buds dancing with joy. I love this rich delicious smoky bbq tasting beef with vegetables, but my favourite way is filled in tacos, and also with rice and jacket potatoes!

This bbq beef recipe also freezes well, so is great as a make ahead meal. This may sound bizarre, but I often crave this in the summer months too, so I make a batch in the late spring, freeze it and then have it in the summer, Filled in tacos and jacket potatoes its delicious. Plus you do not have the excess heat of making it in the kitchen on a summers day.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 800g Braising steak (cut into chunks)
  • 3 Medium Onions sliced
  • 3 Garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 Tbsp of smoked paprika
  • 1 Tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 375ml of Red Wine (Good quality - half a bottle)
  • 400g Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Teaspoon of sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 Bay leaf

Instructions

In a heavy based pan, add 2 tbsp of olive oil and then add the braising steak.  On a medium heat cook and seal the meat until it is browned, then remove the meat from the pan for a few minutes.

In the pan add the last 1 Tbsp of olive oil and then add the onions.  Sauté for around 5 minutes and then add the garlic.  Cook on a gentle heat for a further minute.

Then add in the paprika, stir until mixed through, then add the wine.  Cook on a medium heat until it is reduced by half.  This is a good time to get a wooden spoon and get all the meat and brown bits from the base of the pan.  This is good flavour!

When reduced by half, add in the tomatoes, and then take the tin and half fill with water. Add the water.  Then add salt, pepper and the sugar.  Reintroduce the meat and stir round.  The tuck the bay leaf in, place the lid on top and cook on a gentle heat for 2 hours.

Remove the lid, stir round and cook for a final 30 minutes, (with the lid off) until the sauce thickens.

Serve.
