Even though we are basking in warm weather in the UK, I still enjoy a good lamb tagine which has a fantastic selection of ingredients in it, including some great spices. However, the apricot which is in the tagine, is quite an amazing fruit and one which has some health benefits.
Apricots Nutrition
Apricots are packed full of fibre and I am convinced that the majority of us do not get enough of it in our diet. The amount of people with issues such as constipation staggers me. When I ask about their diet, there appears to be nothing fresh or nutrient packed within it. They usually give me a list which comprises of ready meals and junk food. It is all fats, salt and sugar and not much else when you analyse it. When you offer a healthy alternative for their health issues, they seem to prefer a magic pill approach rather than make a change of diet. A change of diet requires effort, a pill is swallowed in a second. Difference is though, that diet change can make you glow with health, whereas a pill just masks what you are doing to your body inside.
Digestion issues are another problem area for so many. But did you know that if you eat an apricot before a main meal, then the apricot can help to make the stomach more alkaline?
Apricots Nutrition – Anaemia
As well as containing vitamin A which helps eyesight, one of the most beneficial properties the humble apricot contains, is iron. A lack of iron causes anaemia the symptoms of which can be any of the following:-
● tiredness
● shortness of breath
● pale skin
● low energy levels
● dizziness and fainting
Yet a liberal amount of apricots can help raise hemoglobin levels and can help to combat that tired feeling due to a lack of iron. Iron tablets are well known (especially with pregnant women) for giving people problems like constipation as well as a general tunny ache, feeling sick and heartburn. So although you should always take the advice of your GP, you could try to help yourself with a few apricots. Most shops and stores stock the dried ones and so they are pretty easy to obtain!
