Whilst this is a short page, it is important. I shall be focusing on my preferred exercise fields over time, which is more connected to the following:-
- running
- trail running
- floor/mat exercises with and without weights and resistance bands
- step exercises
- walking
- boxing
It isn’t an exhaustive list, but those who follow me on social media, have worked out that trail running in particular is a big one for me. That is mainly because it has worked for me, allows great cardio exercise and hasn’t been affected by any lockdown pandemic. My chosen forms of exercise, I believe gives exercise for less. Some sports are expensive, and require so much equipment or fees. I want to show you, that with little money anyone can exercise and gain health benefits. Not everything in life needs a big price tag.
The biggest tip I can give you, is to do what YOU enjoy! As long as you are exercising and for the best amount of time per exercise then you are winning. Any exercise is better than none.
Exercise, there is no getting away from it. Even people who are physically challenged can usually do some form of exercise. I am always in awe of paralympian athletes and those engaging in wheelchair bound fitness. I salute you! What exercise you choose to do is down to you, however I would strongly suggest that you try to include some fast cardio to get that heart pumping.
I have been reading a book called “A Woman’s Heart” which was written by Dr Angela Maas (affiliate link below). All I can say, is that it has totally changed how I think about a woman’s heart. She is clear that men and women have different hearts, with issues that should be treated differently. There are other factors for women, which means that we should be getting our cardio up and pushing that blood through our arteries, so that we help fight against our arteries calcifying. Crucially if we can do this pre-menopause all the better.
I chose running. I built up slowly, but I ran almost every single day for 6 months. I couldn’t even 1k on the flat without being out of breath. Now I can do 20k in one go in the hills of the Lake District. I want to double this by the end of the year. I also did core, floor, weights, cycling and boxing training. Gym with the covid pandemic became out of the question, but I soon turned my home into a mini gym. Exercise is important, and burning calories and getting fitter is key to seeing results. Try and find something you enjoy and monitor how many calories you are burning and what length of time you are exercising for each day. Walk as much as you can. Take stairs instead of lifts and give yourself any excuse to move rather than take the easy option.
Monitoring of fitness became easier with my apple watch. It soon showed me how I was reaching my targets, and what I needed to do each day to still attain them. There are many times of fitness watches on the market, but the one I use is on the affiliate link below.
Whatever you do, start trying to move more. The great outdoors is free, and over time you will see more fitness posts being added especially connected to my chosen exercise areas.
Again, make sure you get advice from your GP if you have health concerns and not moved in years. Take it STEADY. I repeat take it steady and build up your fitness. Jiggering yourself up from the outset will achieve nothing other than pain and low morale. This is half the reason why people quit. Enjoy the journey and understand you new lifestyle is not a race. You go at your pace, to your level of fitness.
