Metabolism boosts

There is no doubting that as we age, we can have a tendency to pile on weight, lose muscle and struggle with weight loss.  This is probably why our metabolisms slow down as we age.  Generally, men have faster metabolisms than women, due to their muscle mass and heavier bones.

Many people suggest that a slow metabolism is what causes a halt to their weight loss.  However, it is more likely that they are over eating and not exercising enough.  There are a few people who do have medical issues (such as thyroid problems) but still the majority are not adjusting to a healthier lifestyle to help it.

Crash diets are another culprit to a slow metabolism. I advise not to go anywhere near them. Most just destroy your muscle mass, which in turn slows your metabolism.

Slow metabolism symptoms

Making sure you eat properly, healthily and do plenty of aerobic and strength exercises.  The other strategy is to watch out for certain signs that your metabolism has slowed.  These are the following:-

Tiredness
Dry Skin
Brittle Nails
Hair Loss
Headaches
Feeling cold
Depressed and low mood
Craving sugar and carbs
Constipation
Sleep issues
Cramps and muscle aches
Dry eyes
Weight gain

Sometimes when you are on a healthy eating and exercise plan, you may start to notice your metabolism slow.  When this happens I find the best way to rectify it, is to have an increase in daily calories.  Now I don’t mean eat extra cakes and sweets, but healthy nutritious calories which are not hollow and which will fill you up. So lots of fruit, vegetables and water!  Remove refined white foods as much as you can.
