Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Chocolate mousse recipe that is quick and easy to make and uses simple ingredients. Chocolate mousse is a great recipe to make for dinner parties and can be made ahead of any guests arriving. This chocolate mousse recipe uses dark chocolate, but one of my tips (if you like sweeter mousse) is to use half dark chocolate and half milk chocolate. You can also use full milk chocolate if you choose to too. There is a video of the recipe in the recipe card below.

One other chocolate mousse recipe, which fools many people is my vegan chocolate mousse. People are non the wiser! However, if you have vegan guests, they will appreciate this chocolate mousse recipe! The recipe for my vegan chocolate mousse is here.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 90g dark chocolate broken up – it works with other chocolate too, see above.
  • 50 ml single cream
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional – Cream and fruit to decorate

Instructions

Place the single cream on the stove and bring to a boil.

Take the egg and separate the yolk from the egg white.

Remove from the heat and beat in the chocolate with a pinch of salt.  Once smooth and melted, place in a bowl to cool slightly.  Once cool beat in the egg yolk.  Make sure it is cooler before you add the egg yolk or you could end up with scrambled egg!

Whisk up the egg white until you get fluffy soft peaks.  Then fold in the egg whites and chocolate, taking care you don’t knock out the air.

Place in dishes and put in the fridge for at least three hours.

Notes

If you do not like the taste of dark chocolate, you can use other chocolate such as half dark and half milk chocolate.  You can use just milk chocolate too.
